HOW TO KNOW WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO

The Self

Who am I? What am I? Why am I? Who are you? What are you? Why are you?

Now you may be thinking that I sound delusional by asking such questions, but have you really stopped to ask them yourself?

Really, who are you? What are your defining qualities and what separates you from everyone else?

Really, what are you? What kind of person are you, and is this the person that you want to be?

Really, why are you? What is your purpose in life? Why are you here? What is your mission?

You may already have answers to these questions, but do your answers really match what you want out of your life?

Your life is what you make of it; so you better go out there and start living! Have some clarity though. Firstly, you need to ask yourself what you want out of life. Secondly, you need to understand how you’re going to get there. If you don’t know what you really want out of life, then life will more or less feel pretty empty for you.

Don’t wonder through life without knowing what you were supposed to do. Having no driving force or purpose behind your life makes life feel like an empty void. Without purpose, we tend to drift. Think about it. If you’re given a job to do, unless you have purpose, you won’t do a good job or really care about the job that you’re doing. That’s why we’re given a salary.

We do a job for a salary, which is the main purpose behind doing a job. But going deeper, is your job the job that you were meant to even do? Do you feel driven on a daily basis to come to work, perform to your highest ability, and be happy with the outcome? Yes, no, maybe so? Whatever your answer, I believe you should always work towards creating a life for yourself that is purpose-driven.

Let’s take a look at another example: a broader subject, religion. Religion is the driving force behind many of our lives. We hope and we pray that our God has a plan for us and whatever that plan may be, it is the right one for us. We are told that we must not question God’s plan, but just trust in the fact that it is what we are supposed to do. Now I’m not here to criticize religion, but I think that we would be lost without religion.

Religion gives us purpose, or at least a “sense of purpose.” It gives us a reason to get up in the morning and go. It gives us something to fall back on. I believe that is why religion is so intertwined with our lives. Without religion, what do you think would’ve happened to the human race? Do you think we would have survived as long as we have, or do you think we would have become extinct long ago?

Because of religion, we have given our lives more purpose. We are living for a reason, that reason being whatever our religion promises us after living a “good life.” What is the “good life” though? Is it a life that we are told we should live in order to be a “good person,” or is the life that we really want to live: the life that we have always dreamed of living?

It is so interesting that most people are content with their lives the way that they are. Like I mentioned earlier, life is what you make of it. If you don’t make much of life, then you won’t get much from life. But if you act on what life has to offer you, I promise, life will look your way.

Everyone has dreams and everyone has desires. Not everybody acts upon those dreams and desire though. Unfortunately, a lot of us see our dreams as simply that: dreams. We either think our dreams aren’t realistically attainable or we simply lack the necessities to make our dreams a reality. With that kind of thinking, it’s inevitable that you will reach your potential though. You are basically just defeating yourself before you even try. Now tell me, why are you killing your potential?

Your dreams are what make you who you are. Everyone’s dreams are different, so why would you not want to chase them? Follow the path that your dreams tell you. Trust that your dreams will lead you down the path that you were meant to take. Whether you believe that you created your dreams yourself or that God gave them to you is for you to decide. Whatever the matter, know that this path will give you the most happiness in life.

It is so incredibly important to not follow a path that someone else says you should follow. Now don’t get me wrong, it is important to listen to people who have already ventured far down life’s path, as they can provide valuable advice. Understand that the path that they have planned for you will not be the same as their path was. You will have different obstacles and different challenges that you will have to overcome in order to make the path work for you. You have your own desires, they have theirs. I can almost guarantee you that your desires for yourself will not be the same as theirs. Chase your desires, don’t chase someone else’s.

Start down your own path and see where it takes you. Do something that you love and experience all the life that you have been missing out on. You will be surprised at how in-sync with yourself you will become. Getting up in the morning won’t feel like a chore anymore, but rather like a blessing. You will be more grateful for more time on this Earth to devote yourself to what makes you happy. Do what makes you happy, because that’s all that matters at the end of the day. If you’re not happy, something in your life is wrong. Go out and find what makes you happy, and just do it. Nike couldn’t have said it any better.

To Your Success,
